This Privacy Policy explains how Chiweto Insurance ("Chiweto", "we", "us" or "our") collects, uses, shares and protects your information when you use the Chiweto Insurance mobile application and website (together, the "Service"). The Service provides livestock insurance to farmers in Malawi. By using the Service you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information we collect

We collect the following information so that we can provide insurance services to you:

Account & identity details: your phone number (used to sign in), PIN/password, full name, and your region, district and Extension Planning Area (EPA).
Farmer registration details: information captured when you or an agent registers you, including your name, contact number and location.
Livestock & policy details: information about the animals you insure, such as animal type, identification, gender, age, insured value, health information, and farm address.
Payment information: records of premium payments, transaction references, and any payment-proof images you upload. We do not store your mobile-money PIN or full financial credentials.
Claims & support information: details of claims, veterinary reports, and any queries or issues you submit to us.
Location information: where you permit it, we collect location data to support registration, policy and claim processing.
Device & usage information: a push-notification token and basic technical information needed to deliver notifications and operate the app.

2. How we use your information

To create and manage your account and verify your identity.
To process insurance proposals, issue policies, and calculate premiums.
To process payments and validate proof of payment.
To assess, process and pay claims, including coordinating veterinary reports.
To send you service messages by SMS and in-app push notification (for example payment confirmations, policy status and reminders).
To provide customer support and respond to your queries.
To operate, secure, maintain and improve the Service, and to meet legal and regulatory obligations.

3. SMS and push notifications

We use your phone number to send you transactional SMS messages and, if you allow notifications, push notifications about your account, policies, payments and claims. These messages are part of the Service. Standard network charges from your mobile operator may apply to SMS.

4. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed to run the Service:

Service providers: our SMS gateway, cloud hosting provider, and payment/mobile-money partners who process information on our behalf.
Veterinary officers and field agents: to register farmers, assess animals, and process claims.
Legal and regulatory: where required by law, regulation, court order, or to protect our rights, users, or the public.

5. Data storage and security

Your information is stored on secured servers and protected using access controls and reasonable technical and organisational measures. While we take care to protect your information, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as long as needed to provide the Service, and thereafter as required to meet legal, regulatory, accounting and dispute-resolution obligations. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it.

7. Your rights and choices

You may request to access or correct your personal information. You can also request deletion of your account and associated data.

8. Children's privacy

The Service is intended for adults (18 years and older) who own or manage livestock. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Third-party services

The app uses Google Firebase Cloud Messaging to deliver push notifications and may rely on Google Play services on Android devices. Your use of those services is also subject to Google's privacy policy.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you through the Service. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
